Frequently Asked Questions

Wedding Photography

Q:We want natural unposed photography. We really dont want to be posed or feel uncomfortable on the day.

A: Then you've come to the right photographer.I like to work in a "journalistic" style that reall doesnt interfere with the day at all! In fact all couples thank me for my low profile way of capturing the day. Some images need to be posed , but these are kept to a minimum and done with the minimum of fuss.I far prefer to watch and capture the images as they happen, occasionally directing as we go with little intrusion. The goal is to produce a "photo essay" of the days events as they unfold.I feel this is a far better way to capture the true emotions of the day.

Q:What type of packages or coverages do you offer?

A: We can offer a wide range of packages, tailored to suit your needs. From a 2 hour mini coverage to a full day covering all the preparations to the final departure. Most couples find a 4 to 5 hour coverage the most useful. This will usually cover preparations at home or hotel to about the first hour of the reception. This is generally more than enough time for me to capture all the photographs needed for your wedding essay.Inexpensive packages are available as a time and print rate. I am happy to quote a price once I know what your needs are.

Q:How many photographs do you take?

A: Depending on the event, anywhere from 50 - 1,000!On the average 5hr wedding, most couples would choose from 300-500.Most couples aren't really aware how many photographs are being taken at the time. They're to busy enjoying themselves..All clients have a great and varied range of images to make their album selection from - even on rainy days- which brings us to the next faq.

Q:What happens if it rains?

A: More interesting pictures! The light on rainy days makes for much softer lighting for our pictures.Less squinting (usually less heat)makes it much easier for couples and foe your guests. So dont worry , if it does rain its my job to find locations to photograph in, plus if it does rain, the rain can add some great effects for your wedding pictures.

Q:Do we get to keep the negatives?

A: Negatives and or digital files are available for purchase at a rate determined by the studio at the time of purchase.Generally album packages are produced from digital files, film is used on the more inexpensive packages.

Q:How do we view the images?

A: All album packages include a design session at the studio. This generally needs to have 3-4 hours allowed to go through the images and design the album layout. Most couples like to be involved with this stage , and it is done using a state of the art software program.it allows us to create the album in a virtual state on screen. It really does make the best of your images, and shows exactly how your album will look.
A set of proofs are also printed up as references in order for you to show family and friends.Other option also put your images to CD or DVD and can also run as an Audio Visual on a computer or Television.

Q:What if we want Black & White or Sepia?

A: No problem. If we are using film we work out the likes and dislikes before the wedding. Usually most couples like 60/40 colour to black and white. If we are using digital files even better as we can make anything black and white or sepia, or any other colour that we fancy!

Q:Do you do all the photography personally?

A: Probably one of the biggest upsets on your wedding day would be to open the door to a photographer that you didnt book, and hadn't seen before. Not an uncommon scenario unfortunately in the wedding industry.Fortunately, certainly not one that we subscribe to.I personally perform all the wedding photography. We do not employ other photographers, although frequently I may bring an assistant with me.Which brings us to the next point.

Q:Then what happens if your sick?

A:Good point. Certainly photographers are human and it is possible to get so sick to be unable to attend.Fortunately , after attending nearly 1,000 weddings in 15 years I can report that I havent missed one yet!It does mean that colds and flu may go with us to the event.Suffice to say that the odds are definately in your favour. If it came to the state of being completely incapacitated, I am part of a group of similarly qualified wedding photographers- one of whom would be able to step in should the need arise.

Q:Do I have to give you a list of particular photographs I want?

A: Generally No.A meeting is arranged approx two weeks before the date. This is to finalise arrangements, dislikes and likes etc.A list of people shots is not generally useful as I dont normally know who the people are.Certainly if there are particular people who or important friends or family that you would like covered, then this can be noted at the prewedding meeting, and every effort is made to fulfill your requests.Occasionally couples bring tearouts from Bridal Mags etc to the meeting.

Q:How do I book?

A: Due to the exclusivity of my services for the day, I require the photography fee to be paid as a deposit on booking, accompanied by a filled in assignment/agreement form. The balance of any package is due at the prewedding meeting 2 weeks prior to the day.
